Swadlincote Police seized a 'Batmobile' driving through town on Monday.

The car was spotted in heavy traffic and later found abandoned.

But the vehicle itself was a mystery as it had no plates, documentation or a registered keeper.

The Safer Neighbourhood Team's Facebook page explained what happened and made reference to their own 'Batman and Robin' officers.

Their post reads: "Happy Christmas and thank you to all those who have worked throughout the pandemic.

"As you know Batman and Robin have been very successful this year in seizing vehicles.

"Yesterday this vehicle failed to stop for Pc Saddington and Pcso Edwards, they lost sight of the vehicle in all the traffic.

"A few hours later the vehicle was found abandoned, the vehicle was showing no number plates, insurance or registered keeper.

"The team contacted the Sergeant asking for his advice, he replied: 'Well its BAT luck for the driver who has clearly been out Robin people!'"
