Swadlincote Police broke up a group of youths in the town centre who had gathered to drink alcohol and were breaching Covid-19 rules on Sunday evening.

The group were seen around The Pipeworks in Swadlincote and the town's Safer Neighbourhood Team dispersed them - and caught up with some of those who ran away from the scene.

Police described what happened on their Facebook page.

The post reads: "As you know, we are currently knee deep in a pandemic.

"The vast majority of people we have had the pleasure of engaging with are abiding by government guidelines but, unfortunately, there is a minority, mainly the younger folk, who think that this does not affect them and that they are immune from this.

"Yesterday was particularly challenging and a group of youths thought it would be fun to cause problems around Subway and Costa whilst drinking alcohol.

"After several attempts to engage and advise, our very own PCSO Supervisor Kerry managed to sneak up unnoticed. We have now managed to identify at least four people.

"The group were made to pick up their mess and alcohol poured away. We have also identified those who thought they could run away. Our Safer Neighbourhood Team do not give in easy!

"Can we remind you that youths in groups drinking alcohol, breaching Covid- 19 regulations by not social distancing and not wearing masks is not acceptable.

"Parents, please can you liaise with your children and remind them of the dangers that this pandemic brings."
