A man is reported to have 'threatened to kill' after allegedly wielding a knife at Swadlincote police officers on Friday night.

When the man refused, he is said to have been gassed and then arrested.

Swadlincote's Safer Neighbourhood Team posted details of the incident on their Facebook page.

The location was not revealed, but the post said that three officers were involved.

It reads: "Officers Sergeant Sherlock and Pc Tom Langley, Shanice Lang attended an incident last night to conduct a safe and well check on a distressed male.

"On arrival at the address there was no reply to knocking as they entered the rear garden they were confronted by a male wielding a long kitchen knife.

"The male then started to threaten to kill the officers.

"Despite several request to drop the knife, the male refused and had to be gassed before being arrested.

"For the officers it was just another duty day and they are out again tonight keeping everyone safe."
