Swadlincote Police pay a visit to 'Minnie' after her ordeal at the hands of dog thieves in Woodville

By Graham Hill 23rd Apr 2021

Swadlincote Police paid a visit to Minnie - the Dachshund who was stolen from her owner in Woodville earlier this month.

Fortunately, Minnie was found a few days later and was reunited with her family.

The incident was particularly concerning as the women walking Minnie was assaulted during the theft.

And the police say investigation are still ongoing to track down those responsible.

But Swadlincote's Safer Neighbourhood Team also took the opportunity to remind people of another theft in Acresford recently.

Then, eight Dachshunds were stolen and only two have been recovered so far.

Swadlincote SNT's Facebook explained: "The Sergeant visited Minnie and her family this week and got all her attention with loads of kisses.

"As you know, Minnie was stolen from her owner who is still recovering from the incident.

"The family wanted to say a big thank you to the community for the overwhelming response and messages we received for them and Minnie on our Facebook page.

"Minnie has become a bit of a celebrity in the area and is being recognised when she is out for a walk, with the public asking 'Is that Minnie?'.

"Enquiries are ongoing into the theft.

"If you have any information, please quote reference 21*198495 in any correspondence.

"Eight dachshunds were also stolen from a property in Burton Road, Acresford, near Swadlincote.

"Three male and five female dogs, which are all miniature wire-haired Dachshunds, were taken from the property some time between 11.30pm and midnight on February 10.

"The Sergeant has spoken to one of the owners, Charlotte, who was happy that two dogs were located and are starting to settle back into their normal lives.

"Six still remain outstanding."
