A car hit a vehicle with a mother and two children inside in a hit and run incident near Swadlincote.

The collision happened on Caldwell Road, on Monday, heading towards Drakelow and Swadlincote Safer Neighbourhood Team are appealing for information.

The mother's Mercedes was almost forced off the road in the incident.

A social media post from Swadlincote SNT says: "A mother and her two young children were travelling towards Drakelow on Caldwell Road in their Mercedes when a speeding vehicle came from the opposite direction.

"The oncoming vehicle hit the driver's side causing the Mercedes to nearly come off the road.

"The very shaken mother managed to stop and immediately checked on her children, unfortunately she was unable to get any description of the vehicle.

"There was another vehicle behind the offending vehicle who would have witnessed this incident.

"If you have any information on the offending vehicle please PM.

"Has a friend/partner or neighbour come home yesterday with unexplained damage to their driver's side?.

"We appreciate it's not much to go on, we are hoping the driver has realised their mistake and comes forward so their insurance company can deal with this."
