Gresley Family Launches Fundraiser For Pet Dog Alfie's Cancer Operation

By Graham Hill 18th Oct 2020

A Church Gresley family is raising funds to pay for their Jack Russell dog Alfie to have an operation to remove a tumour.

The pet has cancer and the surgery he needs will cost £5,000.

Amy Keeling is Alfie's owner and has set up a gofundme page to try and raise the amount needed.

The move has support from Swadlincote's Animal Crisis Team who posted on their Facebook page saying:

"One of our supporters has a lovely little dog called Alfie who has been her special boy for years, unfortunately Alfie is now not too well.

"He has cancer and needs an operation to remove a tumour.

"His insurance has paid out enough to achieve a diagnosis but now there is nothing left to claim and his operation will cost £5,000.

"His family have a gofundme campaign to help pay for this.

"It would be lovely if our supporters could help out with this, even if it is just £1 each it soon could mount up and help this little fella."

Amy has also posted a message on her fundraising page.

It reads: "We are desperately seeking help to afford an operation to try and save Alfie our Jack Russell.

"Alfie has been with us for nearly 10 years and is completely part of our little family.

"He is our little boy and is very, very much loved. You would not tell Alfie was poorly he still has a real love for life, he still plays, loves his walks, loves snuggling by the fire and still barks at the postman on a daily basis!

"We have recently discovered our beautiful boy Alfie has a primary lung cancer and it is operable and he could make a recovery from it.

"We have been really torn as to whether we put him through this very big operation that could potentially not work or whether we let him go and make the most of our last few months with him.

"We have thought long and hard about it and how he still has a zest for life and hasn't given up yet.

"He is still the cheeky little chappy that we know and love and still finds great enjoyment in his life.

"We are really desperate to try and extend the lovely life he has had and give him the chance to have a few more lovely years with our family.

"Unfortunately we discovered that our insurance only covers us up to £4,000 and that has been used up by all the tests and diagnostics to see if this cancer is operable the operation is going to cost roughly £5,500 and we simply do not have this money.

"As with a lot of other people 2020 has affected our finances a lot and we are already living on one wage.

"I have never asked for money before but now I am asking anyone who can to just give even £1 to help us towards the cost of trying to save our little man.

"It really would be keeping a family together as Alfie is part of us and we just can't face being without him."
