Coronavirus: Derbyshire County Council Sets Out What You Need To Know Ahead Of Newhall Tip Re-opening

By Graham Hill

12th May 2020 | Local News

Derbyshire County Council has issued guidelines for the public to follow when Newhall tip re-opens next week.

Swadlincote Nub News last night covered that reports on social media had confirmed that the county's refuse centres were re-opening again from next Monday - alongside those in neighbouring Leicestershire Newhall Tip Set To Re-open

That includes the Park Road tip in Newhall.

But the council has made it clear Derbyshire waste recycling centres that there will be social distancing measures in place and you will not be able to simply show up with your rubbish.

The Council says: "The safety of site staff, residents and the wider community is our No1 priority and new measures are being introduced at all of our sites so that users and staff can stick to social distancing rules to help prevent the spread of coronavirus and to help us manage traffic.

"Please avoid our recycling centres unless your journey is essential because you can't continue to store waste safely at home without it causing injury or harm. No other reason for the journey would be considered a legitimate purpose.

"Please continue to use kerbside waste and recycling services run by your local district or borough council.

"Most are operating as normal. Hang on to any items you would normally take to our sites for a few more weeks wherever possible and if there's still some life left in them, why not try selling online? If your visit to our recycling centres is essential please:

Check which days you will be allowed in

Vehicles will be allowed into recycling centres on certain days depending on whether the last number on their number plate is odd or even. Vehicles with 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 as the last number will be allowed in on even dates in the month and those with 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 will be allowed in on odd dates in the month.

Be prepared to queue

Fewer vehicles than usual will be allowed on-site at any one time to allow for social distancing. If you must visit check out traffic information and apps before you travel and avoid busy times and please avoid turning up early to queue. When the recycling centres are open you can check the waiting times.

Help to keep things moving

Avoid bringing excessive amounts of waste so we can get people in and out as quickly as possible and help reduce queue times. That means leaving vans and trailers at home for the time being. It's also a good idea to sort your recycling before you travel to save time when you arrive.

Stay safe

Wear protective gloves, appropriate footwear and clothing and only bring what you can safely handle as staff will not be able to help you carry your waste as they normally would.

Handrails and other surfaces which you may touch at our sites will be cleaned regularly but please remember to wash your hands when you get home.

Keep your distance

Help keep the number of people on site to a minimum by travelling alone unless you need another adult from your household to help carry your waste. Please stay at least 2 metres away from staff and other users and ramps and skips should be used by 1 person at a time only.

Stay in your vehicle while queuing

Stay in your vehicle while queuing to help with social distancing. Please do not leave your vehicle until it is necessary to get out.

Check where you need to go

The layout of some of our sites may have changed. If in doubt, ask a member of staff.

Stay at home if you have coronavirus symptoms

Stay at home if you have coronavirus symptoms in the last 14 days, are self-isolating or at high risk of contracting the virus.
