Newhall Garden Centre To Re-Open On Wednesday - But With Strict Distancing Rules In Place

Garden King Garden Centre in Swadlincote will be open to the public on Wednesday - but with strict social distancing measures in place.

Only two people will be allowed in at any one time when they re-open at 9am.

And instead of using the main entrance at the front, customers will be guided to an entrance on the right hand side.

A one-way system will be in place and purchases will be card-only or Apple Pay, not cash.

But Garden King will still be operating online and using click and collect.

The latest Government guidelines mean that garden centres can open from Wednesday after being closed when the lockdown was introduced in March.

"We've been working on the measures because we suspected things would change, we all started back on May 4 to prepare and make sure things are sorted out," said assistant manager Mandy Sharratt,

"We'll be marking the floors out inside, there are squares on the floor for people to stand on.

"We'll make sure we're comfortable with what's happening so we'll only be letting a few people in to start with.

"It'll be gradual for us, but we've been doing the click and collect from the car park and people have been asking if they can come inside.

"We've had to say, unfortunately not, we haven't been able to re-open to the public until now but we can do collections for about three hours a day over the last four weeks."

But while the centre will not be fully back to normal just yet, the store says it is a relief to be open again.

"I guess most people have been in their gardens during the warm weather so people will want to come to garden centres now," added Mandy.

Garden King's opening hours are 9am-6pm Monday to Saturday, and between 10:30am-4:30pm on Sundays. Garden King Garden Centre
