Castle Gresley and Overseal Area Is In Top Two On List Of Derbyshire's Coronavirus 'Hotspots'

The area of Castle Gresley, Overseal & Coton has been recorded as the second highest coronavirus 'hotspot' in Derbyshire.

It is one of only two regions to accumulate 60 or more new cases in the most recent week.

Government data shows where the highest Covid-19 regions are in Derbyshire and Derby as the nation starts its second lockdown.

The county as a whole saw three times as many new confirmed cases the final week of October than it did in the first week of the month.

Bolsover, South Derbyshire and Derby now have the highest rates of infection in the county and were only given Tier 2 restrictions on Halloween, the same day lockdown was announced.

Government data groups cases into local areas based on populations of around 7,500, which is why they do not mimic council ward boundaries.

These have been compiled into a map enabling more detailed analysis of the county and city's hotspots.

The local area within Derbyshire and Derby with the highest number of new cases in the week to October 30 was Spital & Hasland in Chesterfield borough, with 62.

It is followed Castle Gresley, Overseal & Coton with 61.

Oakwood in Derby has the third highest number of new cases with 59; followed by Sandiacre & Stanton in Erewash with 57; and Duffield, Quarndon & Kirk Langley in Amber Valley and Langwith, Shirebrook South & Pleasley in Bolsover district with 56 cases each.

This also goes some way to show how the rate of cases in Derbyshire has increased in recent weeks and has spread across the whole county and city.

There are now 18 local areas with 40 cases or more in the most recent week, compared with just one two weeks ago – Glossop.

Three days ago just two areas had surpassed 50 cases in the most recent week, but this, too, has increased markedly to eight.

Here are all of the areas of Derbyshire and Derby which have accumulated 40 cases or more in the week to October 30:

Spital & Hasland – 62

Castle Gresley, Overseal & Coton – 61

Oakwood – 59

Sandiacre & Stanton – 57
