Police Warning After Man Cons His Way Into Castle Gresley Home

By Graham Hill 3rd Jul 2020

Police have warned elderly residents in the Swadlincote area to beware of an intruder posing a water official.

The Safer South Derbyshire Partnership reported an incident in Castle Gresley on Thursday of a man trying to get into properties under false pretences.

They posted a warning on their Facebook page on Friday.

It read: "We have just been informed that a man has gained access to a property on Princess Street, Castle Gresley, after claiming that he needed to check the water pressure.

"Fortunately the resident questioned the man and he eventually ran off without taking anything.

"The man had also tried to gain access at a neighbour's property but was thankfully refused access.

"Please remind elderly friends and relatives to never let anyone in who hasn't made an appointment and always ask for ID."

Swadlincote Safer Neighbourhood Team added: "Any information, please let us know."
