Swadlincote Police have warned motorists they plan targeted patrols aimed at drivers with no insurance for their vehicles.

They plan checks in Swadlincote and the surrounding areas - and vehicles with no insurance will be taken away.

Swadlincote's Safer Neighbourhood Team posted on their Facebook page on Thursday and said: "Over the next few weeks, officers will be conducting targeted patrols in Swadlincote and the surrounding areas in order to tackle the issue of driving without insurance.

"Any vehicle stopped by the police without a valid policy of insurance can and will be seized under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act 1988.

"The offence of driving without insurance can carry 6-8 penalty points a with the option of a discretionary qualification and an unlimited fine. If the offence is dealt with at the roadside by way of fixed penalty, this carries a fine of £300 and 6 penalty points.

"Driving without insurance is illegal, don't do it!"
