Swadlincote Surgery has revealed it held coronavirus vaccinations on its own premises - and hopes to do it again later this year.

The surgery posted on its Facebook page that 25 of its patients were treated.

It said it was a pilot scheme only, but suggested that further vaccinations could be carried out at the surgery with a view to looking at those patients who will require a second jab.

The surgery's post reads: "On the afternoon of Wednesday, February 17, the surgery administered its first batch of coronavirus vaccinations on our own premises for 25 of our eligible registered patients.

"This was a small pilot project only, run in conjunction with the existing Primary Care Network vaccination site at Oaklands Village, to evaluate how we might be able to use our building and staff safely to administer coronavirus vaccines and assess the impact this would have on our ability to deliver our usual services.

"We were very pleased with this trial and received excellent feedback from our patients that were vaccinated.

"We will be sharing our learning with colleagues in the PCN and sincerely hope we will be permitted to deliver further coronavirus vaccines on the surgery premises in the future, especially as the need for second dose administration approaches for those who had their fist vaccines in December/January.

"A huge thank you to all our colleagues in the surgery that made yesterday's pilot possible, and also thank you to all our staff members who are contributing to the vaccination and administration teams at Oaklands Village on their days off from our surgery at present."
