The Foresters Arms in Swadlincote has raised £2,500 towards donating toys this Christmas to Birmingham Children's Hospital - in memory of the pub local Stacey Fusco who used to work on the children's cancer ward.

Last month, The Foresters - part of the award winning Craft Union Pub Company - hosted a Charity Race Night.

Stacey's family, along with operator Paula Stevenson, organised the evening, in which the pub showed several different races and gave out race cards.

Participants could make bets and the local community also had the opportunity to sponsor the races to help raise money.

There was also a raffle where the local community donated some of the prizes.

The money raised has been donated to Birmingham Children's Hospital, as Stacey used to work on the children's cancer ward there.

As well as the money raised from the charity night being donated to Birmingham Children's Hospital, Paula will also be donating toys.

For over five weeks, Paula put £20 into a pot and with the total at the end of these five weeks, she bought toys.

The idea behind this is to support Stacey and the work she did at the hospital as well as trying to give the children and their families something to look forward to during the festive period.

Paula said: "When Stacey's family asked if we could help to organise a Charity Race Night at the pub, I didn't hesitate to say yes as, although I had never met Stacey, I can tell how missed and loved she is by everyone in the community.

"It was so humbling to see the huge turn out from the local community, and I am very thankful for their support and donations for this wonderful evening.

"I wanted to do something for Birmingham Children's Hospital during the festive period and try and make Christmas a little bit merrier, giving the children and their families something to look forward to.

"Also, I wanted to support the hospital in memory of Stacey as she worked there and did some inspiring work."

The Foresters Arms locals will be continuing their fundraising, and to keep up to date with any future events, go to their website: https://www.craftunionpubs.com/foresters-arms-swadlincote
