Swadlincote's Heartwood Medical Practice says it aims to make the Covid vaccine programme available in the new year.

A message on the Practice's website, posted today (Tuesday) says the first people to receive it will be the over-80 age group.

But the message also urges the public not to phone in about vaccination and to wait until they are invited.

It also says the vaccination will be available at other Swadlincote surgeries.

The post reads: "We are pleased to confirm that, along with our colleagues at all other Swadlincote surgeries, we are aiming for the Covid vaccine programme to be rolled out early in the new year.

"NHS guidance will be followed to vaccinate cohorts by age and health conditions.

"Firstly, we will be inviting our patients aged over 80, and we will contact patients directly by phone to allocate an appointment.

"Please bear with us, we are doing everything within our control to push ahead with the vaccination programme. In the meantime, please be patient and don't call the surgery to ask for updates, once we have more information we will make contact with you to invite you in.

"More information on the vaccine is available on the NHS.UK WEBSITE
