A woman was reported for driving without insurance after returning to a chip shop to pick up some mushy peas.

Swadlincote Police spotted the car at The Admiral in Overseal and ran checks as a female had not been insured to drive it.

The car was subsequently seized by police - who delivered a pun-laden explanation of what happened on the Swadlincote Safer Neighbourhood Team Facebook page.

Their message said: "Unfortunately this driver forgot their mushy peas

"Unfortunately they made the decision to return to the chip shop

"Unfortunately PC Dave and Bully were in the area

"Unfortunately Bully had a feeling about this car

"Unfortunately PC Dave had realised that it was a female driving

"Unfortunately for our driver, no female was insured on the car

"Car seized and driver reported for driving without insurance… she was not best pea-sed!

"When asked about the incident PC Dave said "We knew something was fishy, luckily we were in the right plaice at the right time! #peadoff #coldchips".
