Swadlincote Police Say Parking Has 'Improved' In Newhall Since Last Week's Clampdown
Swadlincote Police say parking has improved in Newhall following patrols last week.
A clampdown in the area highlighted a number of vehicles parking on pavements.
And some of the offending cars were highlighted on the Safer Neighbourhood Team's Facebook page with a police message saying: "Three tickets have been issued to the vehicle owners who have completely blocked the pavement.
"Around fifty of our leaflets were placed on other vehicles regarding poor parking, then another couple regarding vehicles being parked dangerously at junctions."
Now the police believe their actions have prompted drivers to avoid parking on pavements.
But they say motorists are now blocking the roads instead.
However, they say they will be patrolling other parts of Swadlincote to try and stamp out illegal parking.
The SNT's latest post reads: "We were pleased to see that the parking has improved in Newhall since our trip last week.
"While we have not had time to read all the comments, we have managed to take in some.
"Just because we have asked you not to obstruct the pavement, it doesn't mean that we are encouraging you to obstruct the road instead.
"Unless you have a dedicated parking bay outside your house you do not have a right in law to park there, it may be that you have to park further away or even on a different street, however no matter where you park you should do so carefully, legally and be considerate to others.
"We will be expanding our parking campaign into other areas of Swadlincote over the coming weeks."
