Swadlincote Police made an unusual find when they stopped a car on Saturday - a bunch of dead pheasants.

Officers noticed the driver was not using his indicators after leaving a takeaway and, when questioned by police, it was found he had no insurance.

But they were then surprised to discover a 'bouquet of pheasants' in the boot when the vehicle was examined further.

Swadlincote's Safer Neighbourhood Team posted about the incident on Sunday.

They wrote: "If you waited just a bit longer than expected for your Saturday night takeaway last night, it is probably because your Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) intercepted your delivery driver.

"Officers observed a Citroen car driving away from a local takeaway restaurant this evening, making a right turn at a roundabout but failing to use the complimentary indicators provided on the vehicle.

"Your SNT followed the vehicle and it finally came to a halt.

"Officers Bob and Foggy engaged with the motorist to see what was on the menu and quickly discovered it was being driven without the correct insurance.

"On the menu for the driver was a summons for the traffic offences and the vehicle was loaded onto a recovery vehicle to be delivered to the local impound.

"And hot food was not the only thing on the menu tonight – the officers were clearly hungry for more and when they looked through the window of the car they were shocked to see a bouquet of dead pheasants in the boot – resulting in a report being issued to local environmental health officers at South Derbyshire District Council.

"Any tips for the driver? 'Have the right insurance!'

"People work hard to afford their nice cars. If this driver was involved in a Road traffic collision he would not be insured."
