Swadlincote Police say they are determined to crack down on motoring offences in the town - despite being told to 'go and catch some real criminals'.

The Safer Neighbourhood Team reported tracking down a vehicle that had been spotted the day before without any insurance.

And it turned out the driver of the Nissan did not have a licence.

But the town's police say they are ignoring people who criticise them for pursuing motorists who do not have the paperwork they are required to have in law.

The SNT's Facebook page says: "Nissan X-Trail was spotted by an officer yesterday showing no insurance.

"Fast forward 24 hours and it is now on the back of a recovery truck after being sighted in Newhall this morning (Wednesday).

"As a bonus the driver did not have a licence either!

"Apparently we should have let him off and "go and catch some real criminals instead".

"You'll be glad to know we didn't take his advice and he was reported for the offences and vehicle seized."
