Swadlincote Police followed their noses to raid a house containing a cannabis grow.

The occupants were taken into custody after being unable to disguise one giveaway sign alerting the outside world to their drugs den.

Police said it was the pungent smell of the plants that made it clear what was being grown at the property.

The Safer Neighbourhood Team posted details - along with photos of their find - online.

Their message reads: "With spring just around the corner, it seems that one of our local households decided to try and brush up on their skills ready for the growing season.

"Unfortunately for them, the smell of their budding flowers was a pungent, unmistakable one and officers located a cannabis grow inside their address.

"They looked like butter wouldn't melt (luminous green cannabis butter, that is) but that didn't stop them spending the evening in our 5 star custody suite."
