Swadlincote MP Heather Wheeler has broken a foot on a visit to Parliament.

She was treated at St Thomas' Hospital and thanked the NHS for their help after attending A&E.

But she added that the accident meant she was unable to take part in a vote in the Commons.

She revealed her injury on Twitter with a photo of the broken left foot as she lay on her bed at home.

The message reads: "In London to take part in the Chamber and vote.

"Unfortunately I had an accident walking back after being in the House and have broken my left foot.

"So, first, thank you to NHS St Thomas' A&E for fixing me but it meant I couldn't get in to vote - on whether we can vote remotely. Home now."
