Swadlincote based South Derbyshire Volunteer Centre is appealing for people to become involved in telephone befriending.
The centre says that many of those involved during the Covid-19 lockdown are now returning to work - and volunteers are now needed.
In a social media post on Friday, the centre said: "It's been almost five months since we all went into lockdown.
"This period left many people feeling vulnerable, lonely and isolated.
"In March and April, we recruited over 100 volunteers to help with practical tasks such as shopping, or collecting and delivering medications.
"We also offered telephone befriending - a friendly telephone call once a week to check on people who are isolated to prevent loneliness and check whether there is anything they need, or just a friendly chat.
"The services we offered were very successful and, thanks to our wonderful volunteers, we have helped many people during lockdown.
"Our telephone befriending has been very popular and we continue to receive requests for the service, even though many are coming out of lockdown.
"Many of our volunteers are now returning to work and are no longer able to help.
"We therefore need additional volunteers to help to keep the service going. Are you able to help?
"Just a half hour a week telephone call can have such a positive impact on someone's life.
"If you are interested, please email for further information & an application form: [email protected] or telephone Annette on 07458 304315."
