By Graham Hill 24th Jan 2021

Heavy snow hit the Swadlincote area this morning - and there are warnings of icy conditions tomorrow (Monday).

Snow began falling at around 11am and BBC weather says there will be 'heavy snow and a gentle breeze'.

But the situation will be made worse with temperatures as low as minus six centigrade forecast for tonight.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning which lasts until midnight tonight (Sunday).

The warning reads: "Snow will bring travel disruption to parts of England and Wales.

  • Possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers
  • Possible delays or cancellations to rail and air travel
  • Some rural communities could become cut off
  • Power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected

There is a yellow warning of ice for tomorrow morning (Monday).

The Met Office says extra care will need to be taken: "Icy patches will likely cause some travel disruption.

  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths."
