Swadlincote marked the day by turning the town red, white and blue as our photos show.

The Safer Neighbourhood Team posted on their Facebook page: "It is ironic that today, during lockdown, is a day that we have celebrated our freedom.

"We've been amazed to see how our community has come together to commemorate one of the defining moments in our history, whilst living through another.

"Heroes come in all shapes and sizes and from all walks of life. Today we fight a different battle, but one that we have the strength and determination to do so because of the efforts of those that came before us.

"Tonight we stood as one of our residents performed the last post in memory of all those that have fought and made sacrifices, some of whom have given their lives so that we can live."
