Plans to build almost 200 homes in Hartshorne as part of a wider development have been given the go-ahead.
Bellway applied to South Derbyshire District Council for planning permission to build 189 properties, reports Insider Media.
The development will be called Springwood and is to be constructed on land at Broomy Farm, to the west of Woodville Road.
Of the 189 homes to be built on the 17-acre site, 132 will be for private sale and will comprise a mix of three and four-bedroom semi-detached and detached houses.
The other 57 properties will be affordable housing for rent or shared ownership, including a range of one, two, three and four-bedroom homes.
Springwood marks the latest phase of the wider development at Broomy Farm, where Bellway and its sister brand Ashberry Homes are already building a total of 400 homes at its Woodland Rise and Hartshorne View sites.
Paul Coleman, managing director of Bellway East Midlands, said: "We are looking forward to starting work at Springwood to deliver much-needed new homes to help meet the area's housing needs.
"This site has already been allocated for residential development by South Derbyshire District Council and is in a sustainable location on the edge of Swadlincote and close to Hartshorne village centre.
"The range of properties being built will offer a wide choice for prospective buyers, and will suit first- time buyers, families and working professionals alike.
"We expect this new development will also provide 294 construction jobs on site as well as creating a further 588 indirect jobs within the local economy."
