Plans Lodged With Council For Bretby Holiday Cabins

Plans for another eight plush holiday lodges in the countryside near Bretby have been submitted.

The application, from Dean Willshee, would see eight further timber holiday cabins built on the Knights Lodges development in Knights Lane, north of Bretby.

South Derbyshire District Council will decide on the plans in the next few months.

Documents filed with the application say that the proposal would create four new jobs, while the eight new cabins would be a mixture of two-bed and three-bed lodges – with one allocated parking space each.

There are already eight holiday lodges on the site and the new-builds would be constructed on a fresh road extension on the site, which appears to show space for several further cabins in the future, copying the proposed layout.

The holiday lodges sit in the grounds of Shades Farm in the village, and are owned by the Willshee family who run the well-known waste and recycling firm in Burton.

Each lodge would be single storey with a living room, kitchen, bathroom and separate bedroom areas, one of which has an en-suite bathroom.

On top of this, each new unit would also have a hot tub on a timber deck connected to the lodges.

The first eight cabins at Knights Lodges opened in May last year.

Since then, it says occupancy has frequently been higher than 90 per cent.

A document submitted with the application says: "Satisfied customers are highly likely to return and encourage new customers to visit through the leaving of positive reviews.

"As such, the business at Knights Lodges is expected to continue to thrive, creating demand for the proposed further eight holiday lodges.

"The required infrastructure is already present and is capable of accommodating the proposals.

"The previous application for the initial eight holiday units being granted planning permission demonstrates that the proposed development does not give rise to any undue impacts on neighbouring land, nor does it impact upon the character of the surrounding area."

Mr Wilshee previously said that the family bought the farm several decades ago.

He said: "We always wanted to use this land to reach its full potential as it has stunning panoramic views.

"My siblings and I spent most of our childhood playing and working on the farm and we want to make sure it has a sustainable future for the family now, and for our children.

"The whole family has been involved in the project and we're all passionate about creating a sustainable business and further boosting tourism in the area, which is soaring, thanks to incredible visitor destinations such as the National Forest."
