This month's planned work on the Woodville to Swadlincote regeneration route has been outlined by Derbyshire County Council.
Phase one will involve the new link road at the former open cast site in Woodville.
The council says: "Earthworks for the new road will continue during early January, with an aim to finish this part of the groundwork by the end of the month.
"Our work in this area was slower than expected during December because of bad weather and because we found unsuitable material, tyres and other controlled waste which had to be removed.
Work to begin on regeneration route
"Once the earthwork excavation is completed, we will move onto building up the four layers which make a modern highway construction.
"From mid-January we will begin work on installing new drainage connections at the Occupation Lane roundabout, and continue to build up levels in the new road across the former open cast area.
"This work at the roundabout will need temporary three way traffic lights.
"We are installing an 'on-demand' system, where the lights will react when traffic approaches them."
Phase two centres on a new roundabout on the A514 at Woodhouse Street in Swad.
The council adds: "The Woodhouse Business Centre work will be completed following its partial demolition to make way for for the roundabout.
Local enterprise partnership to help fund route
"At the A514 Derby Road, Swadlincote, Cadent Gas will begin diverting some of their services during the first week of January.
"This will need three way traffic lights at the A514 junction with Woodhouse Street, which will be in place for two weeks.
"Stone will be laid to form the foundation of the new roundabout."
Phase three will then be to join up phases one and two.
The council says: "At Kiln Way, Swadlincote, Cadent Gas will begin moving their gas supply in this area from 18th January.
"This will need three way temporary traffic lights at the junction of Kiln Way with Woodhouse Street for four weeks."
The overview of the programme says that the work should be completed by August.
