A fundraiser has been set up after a break-in at Midway allotments during Sunday night which saw tools and other items stolen.

The Chestnut Avenue-based site is seen as an important part of the community with elderly and disabled people regularly making use of it.

Now, a Gofundme page has been set up by Teresa Richardson in an attempt to raise £1,000 to replace the items that were taken and the damage caused.

Teresa wrote: "At some point during the night of November 1, our community allotment site was broken into and lots of our equipment was stolen.

"Gate locks were cut off, hinges broken off the office door and locks broken off our storage container.

"We lost our petrol strimmers, petrol mower, a generator and many hand held tools.

"They even took a tray of envelopes full of seeds!

"These items belong to the community, they are for everyone to use to cultivate their plots and enjoy growing their own produce.

"A number of sheds were also broken into, which has been so distressing for plot holders, many of whom are elderly or disabled.

"After such a terrible year, this has been truly heartbreaking.

"We kept the site open through lockdown, abiding by all the government guidelines.

"Tending to our allotment plots has been essential for many of the plot holders physical and mental health and wellbeing.

"We are a community led group, we don't receive any funding from the council to maintain the site or provide this equipment for plot holders.

"Please help us to raise the funds we need to replace our stolen and damaged items, and improve security across the site."
