A van driver stopped off for a very expensive sausage sandwich in Newhall today (Friday).

While he was grabbing himself a roadside meal Swadlincote Police moved in to report him for driving without a licence and no insurance.

Swadlincote Safer Neighbourhood Team told the tale on their Facebook page with an accompanying photo - and with their usual good humour, they added the hashtag #WhatASillySausage.

Their message reads: "Batman and Robin were out early doors in Newhall this morning looking for a male driving without a licence and insurance.

"The driver thought he outwitted officers by pulling up next to a burger van to get a quick sausage sandwich.

"Unfortunately for him our eagle-eyed officers witnessed him turning into the car park and quickly set to work.

"One male reported for driving otherwise in accordance with a licence and for no insurance. #WhatASillySausage"
