South Derbyshire District Council is still encouraging eligible homeowners in the Swadlincote area to apply for grant funding to improve the energy efficiency of their home and reduce their fuel bills.
The national Green Homes Grant scheme was withdrawn earlier this year, but the District Council has been able to continue to offer a local grant, of up to £10,000, to help successful applicants improve the energy performance of their home through loft and cavity wall insulation.
Applications for the scheme are still being accepted between now and January, with the grants allocated on a first come first served basis.
The work will be carried out by Trustmark-approved Westville Insulation Ltd, with no contribution required by the homeowner.
A homeowner's total household income must be below £30k and the property must have an Energy Performance Certificate rating of D or lower to be eligible for the free grant.
With the resulting improvements potentially reducing a household's energy bill by £600 per year the Council are keen to encourage as many eligible people as possible to apply.
Cllr Gordon Rhind, Chair of the Housing and Community Services Committee said: "We're delighted that we're still able to offer South Derbyshire residents a local Green Homes Grant. We all know that the weather is getting colder and energy costs have shot up.
"The South Derbyshire Green Homes Grant is different to the national scheme. Ours is aimed specifically at households with relatively low income living in houses with poor insulation.
"Having a well-insulated home reduces your fuel bills, enhances the value of your property and helps you do your bit for the environment – which we as a Council are keen to support."
Private Landlords are eligible for assistance, with a 33 per cent contribution required from the landlord towards costs, up to £5000 contribution to the total fee.
