Swadlincote Police have revealed more 'infuriating' details of the fire pit street party they had to break up in Woodville on Saturday night.

And the two officers who arrived say they were told to go and 'fight real' crime instead of making sure the public stick to strict Government instructions on social gathering in the fight to beat Coronavirus.

Swadlincote Nub News reported on Sunday that police had been called to the party late on Saturday night where around 15 people were gathered around a 'fire pit' in the street Police break up bizarre Woodville street party

Officers posted on the Swadlincote Response Unit twitter page that it was a 'bizarre job'.

And on Monday morning, they added more about what happened on the night - as well as posting a photo of the scene that greeted them.

The Response Unit tweeted: "Hello all! Seeing as we got quite a response from our post the other day regarding the party in the street with the fire pit - we thought we'd share a snapshot of what our two officers were met with.

"A number of people had already retreated to their dwellings on seeing a a police car.

"We'd just like to add that whilst on the scene, our officers were met with some infuriating comments like: 'You should be out fighting real crime'.

"And that we have 'Better things to be doing'.

"Thank you, sir, we know! But this needed sorting out."

The tweet was met with a number of positive responses, supporting the officers' actions.

Current Government rules mean that only people from the same household can hold social gatherings.

Any interaction outside of their own homes must see them keep two metres apart from anyone else.

Police stopped the Woodville party as it broke the guidelines set out to try and limit the spread of Coronavirus - and they ended today's tweet with the hashtag #StayAtHomeSaveLives.
