Swadlincote Police are continuing to stage speed checks in various parts of the area - and even catching out drivers trying to evade the speed gun.

A speed watch patrol - requested by the community on Hearthcote Road - found 10 per cent of drivers breaking the speed limit.

The police say they will be notified by post of their fines.

That includes one driver who tried to dodge patrol by turning into a side street and making a fast getaway from the area.

But the patrol had already recorded the motorist's speed and a fixed penalty is on the way.

The Safer Neighbourhood Team said on their Facebook page that they had a new recruit on board.

Their post reads: "PCSO Annie Hillman, has joined the team, and was out on Speed Watch Patrol with PCSO Dean.

"They completed speed checks as requested by our community on Hearthcote Road.

"Ten out of every 100 drivers were found to be speeding and will be notified by post.

"One clever driver thought they could get away with speeding by turning into a side street before driving off at speed.

"Too late, Annie had her Gun: expect a letter through the post.

"Please slow down and make the roads safer.

"Well done to the other drivers for sticking to the speed limit.

"PCSO Hillman said: "I am really enjoying my time on SNT, everyone has been so nice, and from what I have seen walking around speaking to the public there is a real community spirit in Swadlincote."

The speed check will continue in different location as requested by our community.
