There are now more than 100 Covid-19 patients in Derby and Burton's hospitals – a 50 per cent increase since Christmas.
Shortly before Christmas (December 22), there were 78 Covid patients at Royal Derby Hospital and Queen's Hospital in Burton, of which four were in intensive care.

A motorist told Swadlincote Police that UK laws did not apply to him as he was a Freeman of the Land.
The van was stopped in Woodville last week and officers had to smash one of the windows to get in as the driver refused to get out after 20 minutes of asking him to do so.

Conkers parkrun celebrated its 500th event with nearly 450 participants turning up to run, jog or walk the 5km track in Moira whilst wearing their most festive fancy dress outfits.

The Foresters Arms in Swadlincote has raised £2,500 towards donating toys this Christmas to Birmingham Children's Hospital - in memory of the pub local Stacey Fusco who used to work on the children's cancer ward.
Last month, The Foresters - part of the award winning Craft Union Pub Company - hosted a Charity Race Night.

An opticians has helped to bring some festive cheer to nine-year-old Alfie Barney who was diagnosed with a condition earlier this year which could have been life-threatening.
As part of an initiative run by Specsavers, Swadlincote schoolboy Alfie was presented with a PlayStation 5 by the team at the Ashby de la Zouch branch.
