Two men were arrested by Swadlincote Police after walking out of Sainsbury's with 'several' bottles of alcohol.

The shoplifters were from Coventry but they did not get far with their haul of whisky.

Swadlincote Police's Safer Neighbourhood Team gave details on their Facebook page as two officers - nicknamed Batman and Robin - made the arrest on Thursday.

The post reads: "Batman and Robin were back on patrol when they received information of a possible shop theft at Sainsbury's, Civic Way .

"The crime fighting duo stopped James Heritage and Kevin Pike both from Coventry as they were leaving the store.

"PC 14349 McGlade and PC 15064 Jones joined the officers at the location and both males were searched along with their vehicle.

"Several bottles of Scotch Whisky and Jack Daniels Whisky were recovered and both arrested.

"Heritage and Pike were dealt with by Custody Investigation team officers Pc Samantha Parker & Naomi Ward who charged and remanded both."
