New Year's week temperatures are going to be taking a dip after a mild weekend in the Swadlincote area.

The Met Office has released its five day forecast - and you will need to wrap up warm.

Here's how it is looking in the build-up to the weekend.

Today (Wednesday):

A bright and frosty morning across the region. Feeling cold with a brisk northerly wind, very windy near the coast where there may also be some wintry showers in the afternoon. Maximum temperature 3 °C.

Tonight:

Another clear and dry night. Winds becoming light and still feeling cold, with widespread frost and icy patches by dawn. Minimum temperature -2 °C.

Thursday:

Frost slowly melting on Thursday morning as it becomes increasingly cloudy. Outbreaks of rain, possibly sleet, from midday, continuing into the early evening but gradually turning to rain. Windy overnight. Maximum temperature 5 °C - but will feel like -4 at times.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Wintry showers on Friday in far west, mostly sunny elsewhere. Maximum temperature, 3, but might feel like -2 on Friday. Breezy. Band of rain, briefly turning to snow on Saturday. Bright and sunny on Sunday, mostly dry and turning milder.
