The owner of a Bedlington Terrier used herself as a 'physical barrier' during an attack by another dog in Midway.
Last Wednesday, (August 11) the Terrier - called Nell - was attacked in Dunsmore Park.
The owner ended up on the floor after trying to be a physical barrier in an attempt to protect Nell from the attacking dog.
Swadlincote Safer Neighbourhood Team says the owner was left so shaken by the incident that all she wanted to do was get Nell home and did not think to get the owner's details.
The SNT added: "The incident happened around 1pm right next to the children's play area as follows.
"The owner was walking Nell, on a lead, when a tan coloured large Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross, which was off lead, ran over and started to maul at Nell without warning.
"The owners of the Bull Terrier were an elderly couple and were sitting nearby on the bench just in front of the basketball court.
"They also had a black dog possibly a Staffie cross but smaller, the incident happened very quickly but, even so, the owners weren't sufficiently mobile to intervene and neither did the attacking dog respond to the man's recall.
"At the time, there were some children in the park (around 10 years old) but thankfully not close by.
"They did in fact come to check that both the owner and Nell were okay.
"Unfortunately, the attack has left Nell with a puncture wound and fractured rib requiring several visits to the vets.
"The owner is an animal lover and wants no harm to come to anyone else.
"All she has asked for is the owners to come forward and pay for the vet bills and their dogs not to attack anyone else.
Pcso Eve Hanman an animal lover herself also, is investigating this attack and will be popping in to see how Nell is recovering and will keep you updated with Nell progress.
