A shocked Woodville motorist had his car taken away by police - just a day after buying it.

The vehicle had been stolen from Church Gresley last month.

And Swadlincote Police traced it to its new 'owner' on Tuesday.

The town's Safer Neighbourhood Team posted on their Facebook page with a photo of the car being seized.

Their post read: "The lesson of the day today is to always double check any vehicles that you are planning on purchasing.

"The buyer of this vehicle had purchased it yesterday and didn't expect to find the Police knocking on his door today.

"Checks reveal the car to be stolen from Church Gresley in July.

"Recovered for forensic examination."
