An Audi driver was stopped by Swadlincote Police after one of his passengers gave them an offensive gesture - and ended up getting a Covid fine.

Police did a U-turn in the Swadlincote area after the man stuck his finger up at officers.

It proved to be an expensive gesture in more ways than one.

Swadlincote Safer Neighbourhood Team used their Facebook page to explain what happened: "We love it when the community wave at us, but not in this way!

"PCSO Edwards and PC Holmes were attending incidents across Swadlincote.

"A white Audi drove past and the passenger of the vehicle decided to stick his middle finger up towards the officers.

"PC Holmes immediately spun the vehicle around and alerted the vehicle to stop.

"Turns out the Audi had four male occupants all breaching Covid.

"Three of the males were made to walk home and the offending male was given a Covid fine and warned about his behaviour."
