Weekend litter problems in Newhall Park have been highlighted by Swadlincote Police's Safer Neighbourhood Team.

Officers said it was a 'sad sight to see' before announcing extra patrols at the area's parks this week.

Police praised the public's behaviour over the weekend with gatherings still forbidden under a nationwide lockdown.

Their social media post reads: "All the beauty hot spots were patrolled with everyone enjoying the nice weather this weekend.

"Great to see everyone out exercising and sticking to the regulations that don't change until the 8th March."

But it was the litter problem that produced the weekend's low point according to officers.

The SNT post added: "Woodville, Overseal, Gresley, Eureka, Newhall park have been patrolled.

"It was sad sight to see the mess left on Newhall Park by some inconsiderate people, especially when the bin is only few feet away.

"This week, extra patrols will be conducted on all these parks."
