A man was charged with four offences - including theft and actual bodily harm - after trying to run away from Swadlincote police officers during a burglary.

The man was attempting to steal a television from a house in Main Street, Linton, on Wednesday.

But when he was disturbed by police during the theft, he ran off into woodland, only to find his escape blocked by more officers.

Swadlincote Police's Safer Neighbourhood Team's Facebook page gave more details.

The post reads: "SNT and group 4 officers attended an address on Main Street, Linton yesterday regarding a wanted male who was trying to gain entry to an address.

"Pc Saddington and Pc Bowyer arrived at the address to find the offender trying to steal a television.

"On sighting the officers, he dropped the television and decided to run onto Main Street and into Foxley Woods with the officers in hot pursuit.

"Running from the officers was a bad idea as he ran straight into Batman and Robin on Mount Pleasant Road where he was detained and arrested by Pc McGlade.

"The male was later dealt with by LPU officers who worked through the night and this morning to get him charged and remanded for Theft, ABH, Criminal damage & Breach of Restraining Order."
