Swadlincote Police say a burglar ended up with 'a bloody nose' after trying to steal a vintage motorbike.
The intruder was arrested after attempting to take the bike from a property in Greeson Close in Swadlincote in the early hours of Monday morning.
But he was disturbed by a neighbour who alerted the police.
Offivers caught thief in the act and were able to arrest him, but not without a struggle.
The Safer Neughbourhood Team took to social media to explain what happened.
Their post reads: "Swadlincote Police shift 4, attended a report of a Burglary in progress on Greeson Close, Swadlincote just after midnight.
"The offender had removed a vintage motorbike from a garage and was pushing it away when an eagle-eyed neighbour noticed him.
"Knowing the motorbike belonged to his 80-year-old neighbour, he challenged the offender who then tried to escape.
"The offender was caught and taken to the floor where he was detained until the police arrived and arrested the offender. The offender ended up with a bloody nose, for his troubles.
"He was later dealt with by our Custody investigation team, who charged and remanded the offender to appear at Derby Magistrates Court tomorrow morning (Tuesday).
"Hopefully the judge will tell him to keep his nose clean from now on!
"Give the neighbour a medal!"
