Swadlincote park incident was a 'medical emergency' and not linked to recent knife crime say police

Derbyshire Police has issued a message informing the public that last night's incident in Swadlincote was not related to recent knife crime in the area.

Police and ambulance crews were called to a medical emergency which is thought to have required the use of a helicopter.

The incident is believed to have taken place in Eureka Park and caused concern on social media which led to suggestions of more knife crime.

However, a medical emergency was mentioned online and this was confirmed by Derbyshire Police in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday).

A social media post reads: "Officers have been in the area of Swadlincote this evening assisting road and air ambulance crews with a medical emergency.

"This was not in relation to any new or ongoing police matter."

Tensions have been running high in the town following a murder and attempted murder, the latter taking place in Eurkea Park, last week.

Ten days ago, 17-year-old Benjamin Orton died as a result of an assault in an alleyway at the side of the Odeon cinema, in Coppice Side 16-year-old is charged with murder.
