Swadlincote fire crew tackling field fire in Coalville

A fire crew from Swadlincote is among seven Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service vehicles tackling a corn fire this afternoon (Tues).

The fire service received several calls about the blaze in a field of corn in Chiswell Drive just before 3.45pm.

Also mobilised were firecrews from Castle Donnington, Ashby and two from Coalville, along with the Shepshed command support vehicle and Loughborough water carrier.

A Leicestershire Fire and Rescue spokesman said at 4.30pm today: "We received several calls to a field fire involving standing corn.

"One field is involved in the fire and well alight.

"Two hose reel jets and beaters in use."
