Swadlincote Police stopped a car after seeing a suspicious item on the bonnet - only to find the vehicle was the driver's gift to his partner.

Officers stopped the Range Rover as it was, according to their records, uninsured.

But all was revealed when they spoke to the man behind the wheel.

Swadlincote Safer Neighbourhood Team posted on social media and said: "Pc Saddington and Pc Simkins were out on patrol when they spotted a Range Rover with something suspicious attached to the bonnet.

"The vehicle was showing no insurance on police systems.

"On closer inspection it appeared to be a bow, with the driver claiming he had bought the car as a gift and was on his way to surprise his partner.

"Turns out it was not only her lucky day but his too.

"Extensive enquiries revealed the male was in fact insured to drive the vehicle and was allowed on his way.

Not before a photo opportunity with the Safer Neighbourhood Team and one top boyfriend."
