Police are trying to track down the owner of a horse that was left tied up near an estate near Swadlincote with no water.

Swadlincote Safer Neighbourhood Team posted on Mlonday that the horse had been found and made an appeal to discover why.

A photo of the animal (above) was also on their Facebook page.

The horse was taken away to where it would be safe - but the police want to hear more.

Swadincote SNT's message read: "Our friend here had been tied up and left near an estate in Swadlincote, apparently the grass was much greener on one resident's front lawn.

"Luckily for our horse a few helpful members of our community managed to spur her on before she finished her mowing job.

"In all seriousness, we'd like the owner of this horse to come forward and contact us to provide an explanation as to why it was left where it was, without water.

"Hopefully they don't have a lame excuse.

"We have now moved the horse to a place where it is safe."
