A 115-plant cannabis farm was discovered in a Swadlincote home after the occupant failed to pay their energy bills.

When he was faced with having to pay up, he ran off - leaving a half-cooked sandwich in his toaster.

On Monday, warranted officers from an energy company attended an address on Stanhope Road.

This was to claim the unpaid bills and change the meter.

But when the householder was told what would happen, he fled the property.

That was when the cannabis grow was discovered.

Swadlincote's Safer Neighbourhood Team explained: "After the occupants had been racking up a large bill and not paying it, the energy firm attended to claim funds and change the meter.

"On stating their intentions, a single occupant at the address ran off.

"On entering the address, a large cannabis grow was located in the upstairs bedrooms of the property - 115 cannabis plants were recovered from the scene and a forensic examination complete.

"The occupant left that much in a hurry, he unfortunately left his mobile phone, and a half-cooked sandwich in the toastie machine!

"The investigation is currently ongoing. If you have any information regarding this incident, please contact us quoting 22*132140."
