A man warned for nuisance driving in a Swadlincote street claimed he was doing it to try and get his two-year-old child to sleep.

Swadlincote Police stopped the vehicle after receiving complaints from members of the public in the Hearthcote Road area.

When they spoke to the driver, they found he had a small child in the car with him.

He was warned that he would have his car seized if he repeated the offence.

The driver was also reported to social services.

Swadlincote Safer Neighbourhood Team gave details of the incident on their Facebook page.

Their post reads: "Nuisance Vehicle (one word comes to mind).

"Thank you to our public for reporting a nuisance vehicle on Hearthcote Road.

"Pc Saddington and Pcso Hillman located the driver of the black Fiat and were shocked to find a young, two-year-old, child in the vehicle.

"When the driver was warned about the manner of his driving his reply was: "I am trying to get my child to sleep?". This is not the reply Pc Saddington was expecting!

"Driver was given a Sec 59 warning and we will be seizing his car if he does anything similar, non-essential journey dealt with and social services made aware."
