Latest update on progress of Woodville-Swadlincote Regeneration Route

By Graham Hill 7th Mar 2021

The Woodville to Swadlincote Regeneration Route constructors have issued a further update on the new road.

And they explain how work will take shape during March.

Phase 1: the new link road Former Open Cast Site – Woodville

  • Work on laying the drainage for the new road began in February and will continue during March. We have been installing culverts for the streams flowing through the site.
  • The streams and drainage are being routed into new ponds that are being dug around the site. The land around these ponds will be landscaped towards the end of the project, enhancing the area's leisure facilities.
  • We will be working on some Saturdays during March, with a shift finish of 1pm.

Overview of the Build Programme

  • Complete Derby Road roundabout – expected May 2021
  • Complete Occupation Lane section to Kiln Way – expected May 2021 ]
  • Work starts to modify and improve Kiln Way – expected May 2021
  • Complete Kiln Way section – expected August 2021

Phase 3: joining up Phases 2 & 3 Kiln Way – Swadlincote

  • Work on the acoustic barrier along Kiln Way is nearing completion.

This wooden fence will shield the Kiln Way businesses from traffic noise along the new road.

  • Work on Kiln Way will mostly be contained within the land adjacent to the road. Our site team are in regular contact with the businesses affected.
  • The route of the road from Kiln Way to Occupation Lane can now be seen as a continuous line.

The earthworks have been completed and the road foundation is now being built up.

This project is being led and funded by Derbyshire County Council.

Nottinghamshire based construction & civil engineering company nmcn has been appointed by the County Council to build the road.

They say: "Our joint aim is to keep local people and businesses well informed and minimise any disruption which may occur as much as we possibly can.

"If you have any comments or concerns please contact nmcn in the first instance as they are responsible for managing the site works and coordinating the different activities.
