Hallmark in Swadlincote confirms it will not be closing down - as shop is not owned by Thorntons

Local News by Graham Hill 16th Mar 2021

Hallmark Thorntons in Swadlincote has made it clear it will not be closing.

On Monday, Chocolate maker Thorntons said none of its stores will reopen after coronavirus lockdowns are lifted.

The decision to close its 61 shops will put more than 600 jobs at risk.

But Hallmark has said there should be no confusion over its High Street shop in Swad.

The store posted a message on its Facebook page which reads: "Sadly, Thorntons have announced that they are closing all of their retail stores with immediate effect due to the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on their business.

"We would like to take this opportunity to reassure all of our valued and loyal customers that we are NOT owned by Thornton's and that we are a family run, independent business.

"We will remain OPEN and will continue to stock Thorntons products for the foreseeable future in addition to introducing a number of new premium confectionary lines.

"We are deeply saddened by the news and would like to highlight the importance of supporting your local high street, shopping local and supporting independent retail.

We look forward to welcoming you into store again on April 12th."
