The emergency road works that will force the closure of Woodhouse Street, in Swadlincote, have been put back for a month.

Originally, the work was supposed to have started today (Friday) and lasted until Monday Emergency roadworks set for Swadlincote route.

The work is part of the new Woodville To Swadlincote Regeneration Route.

But a spokesman for constructors nmcn said the need for the emergency work only became apparent when Severn Trent began an excavation.

However, in the following 24 hours, there has been a re-think.

The constructors have issued an update which reads: "Yesterday we told you that an emergency closure of Woodhouse Street, in Swadlincote was needed this weekend. (Friday 29th January to Monday 1st February)

"We have been able to work with Severn Trent Water to avoid this emergency closure.

"This will allow businesses and the public to plan their journeys better.

"The work is being re-scheduled (provisionally for Friday 26th February to Monday 1st March).

"I will circulate a formal notice once the arrangements have been finalised.

"We are sorry if the emergency notice has caused you any additional work.

"However, once we found that a delay was possible, it allowed us to give local people and businesses more time to plan."
