A car was left burnt out in Castle Gresley - after the driver made a quick escape from the vehicle.

The incident happened near the Drum and Monkey pub on Tuesday.

But the fire damaged parts of the road surface in Station Street and police were warning drivers to beware.

Swadlincote Safer Neigbourhood Team posted: "After seeing a huge cloud of black smoke erupting near The Drum and Monkey pub, 'Batman and Robin' decided to take a closer look and came across a vehicle well alight.

"Thankfully there were no injuries to the driver who quickly escaped from the vehicle.

"Please be cautious when travelling on Station Street until the road is repaired."
